NGO Coordinator (CONGD)
Founded in 1986, the NGOD Coordinator for Development-Spain (CONGD), is made up of nearly 100 Development NGO and 17 autonomous coordinators, reaching a total of over 450 organisations dedicated to international cooperation and humanitarian aid. In 1998 it established its own Code of Conduct, which must been adhered to by all member organisations. It works alongside its members with the MISSION of developing a cooperation system that contributes to the creation of a poverty-free world in which social justice and the equitable distribution of resources are top priorities and where all people have access to the same development opportunities, regardless of where they are born or live.
The main objective of the Development NGO Coordinator-Spain is to foster networking between member organisations and to defend public cooperation policy, in which Development NGO play a key role. It presents its shared values and demands before public administrations in Spain and other institutions abroad. It strengthens the joint initiatives of its members, providing support and assistance and facilitating joint action in favour of a dynamic model of international development cooperation that defends human rights and social justice on a global scale.
The Coordinator offers international imbalance analysis, information from the countries in which its members work and proposals for participating in the construction of a fair, egalitarian and sustainable world. Its main lines of work are:
- Political intervention in defence of public cooperation policy, acting as a spokesperson for Public Administrations and various governments.
- Campaigns: This line of work is carried out in close collaboration with social movements, trade unions and other organisations with which partnerships have been created to bring about social and political change.
- Training and resources for Development NGO and for the general public who are interested in development.
- Integration in national and international networks dedicated to global social justice.
- Promotion of self-regulation, transparency and ethics among Development NGO.
- Events and activities with thousands of organisations all over the world and with millions of people who are dedicated to achieving development goals. To change the way in which our world is run, which condemns millions of people to poverty.
