Business organisations, in their role as social representatives, carry out important work in the field of democratic governance and participation. They also assist countries with emerging economies in the transition from an informal to a formal economy, including all State development and essential structuring required for this transition to take place.

In Spain, it is also important to highlight the role played by the Confederation of Employers and Industries of Spain (CEOE) and the Spanish Confederation of Small and Medium Enterprises (CEPYME), which run various business cooperation initiatives in collaboration with the AECID, with various international organisations and with other cooperation participants. In addition, the Spanish Business Confederation of Social Economy (CEPES) also plays a key role in cooperation. This organisation focuses on providing technical support to its counterparts in partner countries through activities directed at strengthening social economy companies and entities, based on training, education, institution-building, CSR policy implementation and development programmes.
